Immediate Effects
Shortly after the earthquake shook San Francisco a fire broke out causing the city to catch on fire. Fire fighters could not dynamite the buildings correctly and caused more timber to be exposed to flames.
A visible tear appeared went on for 300 kilometres, the vertical displacement got up to 1 metre in some places as well as trees being pulled from the ground
400 kilometres of the famous streetcars buckled, 28 000 buildings were destroyed and out of the 400 000 people in the city, 300 were killed and 225 000 were left homeless after the earthquake and fire had finished
